New Delhi. The crowd of people going home on Holi has started increasing at railway stations. There is more crowd in trains from Delhi to Bihar and in the eastern direction, but it is difficult to get confirmed tickets in trains of other routes also. Keeping this in mind, 75 pairs of special trains are being run by Northern Railway. 842 additional coaches have been installed in 39 regular trains.

Arrangement of 5 lakh additional seats

Along with taking several steps for crowd management at railway stations, passenger facilities have been increased. Northern Railway General Manager Shobhan Chaudhary reviewed the steps taken to handle the rush of passengers on Holi. He said that there will be 354 journeys of special trains, out of which 243 are of eastbound trains. About five lakh additional seats have been arranged by installing additional coaches in special trains and regular trains.

To prevent crowding on the platform, a temporary waiting room has been constructed at New Delhi Railway Station towards Ajmeri Gate and at Anand Vihar Terminal with necessary facilities like drinking water, catering stall, booking counter, inquiry counter, announcement system, toilets. Arrangements made at stations and trains

  • All booking and inquiry counters will remain open during peak hours.
  • Additional reservation and booking counters will be opened as per requirement.
  • Teams of commercial/vigilance inspectors and RPF and police personnel will be deployed at reservation offices to keep a check on the activities of ticket touts and anti-social elements.
  • Additional ticket checking staff is monitoring the reserved coaches.
  • Apart from security personnel, adequate number of scouts and guides and civil defense volunteers will be available at railway stations.
  • They will also manage the rush of passengers on platforms and footover bridges.
  • Special security check of important passenger trains.
  • Arrangements for deployment of duty officers and doctors and ambulances in New Delhi, Old Delhi, Anand Vihar Terminal and Hazrat Nizamuddin.
  • Availability of adequate number of wheel chairs for the convenience of senior citizens and disabled people.
