Holi 2024: Holi is one of the major festivals of Hindu religion. This year Holi will be celebrated on 24th March. The festival of Holi is celebrated on Phagan Sud Purnima Tithi, on the second day of which Dheti is celebrated. On a dusty day people play Holi with colors with each other. Holika Dahan is done on the night of Holi.
On the day of Dhuti, Hindus celebrate together and express happiness by bathing each other with colors of love. Everyone knows that the story of Holika Dahan is related to Lord Vishnu's devotee Prahlad and Holika, but very few people know why Holi is celebrated. In this report we will know why Dheti is celebrated and how it started.
The story is related to Kamadeva and Shiva – According to the legend, Goddess Parvati wanted to marry Lord Shiva, but Shiva, absorbed in penance, did not pay any attention to her. Seeing these efforts of Parvati, Kamadeva, the god of love, came forward and shot a flower arrow at Shiva, breaking Shiva's penance. When the penance was broken, Shiva became angry and opened his third eye and Kamadeva was burnt to ashes by the fire of his anger.
After this Lord Shiva looked towards Parvati. The worship of Himavan's daughter Parvati was successful and Shiva accepted her as his wife, but after Kamadeva was burnt to ashes, his wife Rati faced untimely widowhood. Then Rati worshiped Shiva. It is said that when he returned to his residence, Rati told him her grief.
Remembering the previous birth of Parvati, Lord Shiva realized that Kamadeva was innocent. In his previous life he had to be humiliated on the occasion of Daksh. Distressed by his insult, Daksh's daughter Sati committed suicide. The same Sati took birth as Parvati and in this birth also she chose Shiva. Kamadeva definitely helped him. Kamadeva is still guilty in Shiva's eyes because he limits love to the core of the body and allows it to fall into lust.
After this Lord Shiva revived Kamadeva. Gave him a new name Manseej and said, now you are formless. That day was the full moon of Phagan. People lit Holi at midnight. By morning the impurity of lust got burnt in its fire and appeared in the form of love. Kamadeva started celebrating the victory in a bodiless form, inspiring innovation. This day is a dusty day. Even today, at many places, Rati's lamentation is expressed in folk tunes and music.
