Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has claimed that the minority community of Bangladeshi origin voted in favour of the Congress in the Lok Sabha elections while the central government and BJP-ruled state governments have done a lot of development works for the minority community.

He also alleged that the indigenous Bangladeshi minorities are the only community involved in communal activities in Assam. Addressing a felicitation function of newly elected MPs of the party and allies at the state BJP headquarters here, Himanta said the BJP and its allies got 47 per cent votes in the Lok Sabha elections, while the Congress and its allies got 39 per cent votes. The BJP-AGP-UPPL alliance won 11 of the 14 Lok Sabha seats in Assam, while the Congress won the remaining three seats. An analysis of the 39 per cent votes polled by the Congress and its allies shows that they did not get votes across the state. They got 50 per cent votes from 21 minority-dominated assembly constituencies. On the other hand, the BJP got only three per cent votes from these constituencies, which proves that Hindus do not practice communalism. Only one community, people of the same religion, practice communalism in Assam.

Himanta said that on the other hand, although the BJP is working for the people of Assam including the tribals, these communities have never voted 100 per cent in favour of the BJP. Congress got 99 per cent votes from the original Bangladeshi minority areas except Karimganj. Even though they live in houses provided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, get electricity and sanitation facilities provided by him, they still vote for the Congress. They are doing this with the intention of controlling the state in the next 10 years.
