Shimla, August 11 (HS). In the first budget session of the third term of NDA under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the voice of the hill state Himachal resonated strongly in the Upper House of Rajya Sabha. MP Dr. Sikandar Kumar prominently raised various developmental and public interest issues of Himachal in the Rajya Sabha. He asked 37 questions related to the state in Parliament. He also participated in the discussion on Budget-2024 and expressed his views. Dr. Sikandar Kumar participated in five proposals of special mention in Parliament. Apart from this, he raised four burning issues during Zero Hour.
These issues attracted the attention of the central government
Dr. Sikandar drew the attention of the Central Government to important issues related to the state and demanded their implementation. He sought information from the Central Government on questions related to railways, four-lane, national highways, roads, tourism, steel and textile industries, drug trafficking and de-addiction centres, medical institutions, AYUSH centres, hydro projects, water conservation and flood management works etc.
Uranium reserves found in these districts of Himachal
Dr. Sikandar also raised the issue of uranium reserves in Himachal in the Parliament. On his question, the Central Government informed that there are 784 tonnes of uranium reserves in Hamirpur, Una, Shimla and Mandi in Himachal Pradesh. Dr. Sikandar Kumar also raised the demand in Rajya Sabha to set up a uranium treatment plant in the state. Apart from this, he also sought details of the implementation of other schemes of the Central Government including Nai Roshni Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Rojgar Srijan Karyakram in the state and their beneficiaries. He also raised the demand in Parliament to develop airports and heliports in Himachal.
Doppler radar will be installed in Lahaul-Spiti next year
In response to Dr. Sikandar Kumar's question related to weather and disaster forecast, the concerned Union Minister informed the House that the Central Government will install X-band Doppler radar in the tribal district of Lahaul-Spiti in Himachal Pradesh next year in 2025. This will provide accurate information about weather forecast and will help in reducing the losses caused during monsoon season and snowfall. In response to a question related to railways by Dr. Sikandar Kumar, the Union Railway Minister informed that there has been no accident at any railway crossing in Himachal Pradesh in the last five years.
Demand raised to run timber trail from Jakhu to Taradevi
During Zero Hour in Rajya Sabha, Dr. Sikandar Kumar raised the issue of running a timber trail from Jakhu Temple to Tara Devi in Shimla city. He also demanded the construction of a flyover from the Central Government to solve the traffic problem in Shimla city.
