Mumbai: After former Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) zonal director Sameer Wankhede sought permission to hand over the investigation of the atrocities case against NCP leader Nawab Malik to an independent agency like CBI, the Bombay High Court has sought investigation details from the police.

Wankhede, additional commissioner in the Directorate General of Taxpayers Services and a member of the Mahar Scheduled Caste, alleged in a petition filed last week that police inaction in the case had caused him and his family mental stress and humiliation.

An Indian Revenue Service (IRS) official registered a case against Malik under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Anti-Atrocities) Act at Goregaon police station in August 2022.

Mrs. A bench of Revati Mohite Dere and Prithviraj Chavan directed the Goregaon police station officer to appear with the case diary on the next hearing. The court said that the details of the investigation will have to be told in two weeks.

The complaint alleges that Malik has made derogatory comments against Wankhede and his family members on the basis of their caste in interviews and on social media. Malik has not been arrested yet in this case nor has any chargesheet been filed against him. As a political leader, Malik is putting pressure on the police system.
