High Court quashes the criminal action of Big Bazaar CEO


Prayagraj, March 12 (HS). The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Big Bazaar (Future Retail Limited) has got a big relief from the Allahabad High Court. The court has canceled the criminal proceedings pending against him in Gorakhpur District Court.

The court said that the petitioner cannot be held directly responsible for the transactions taking place in Gorakhpur. This order has been given by the bench of Justice Mayank Kumar Jain while accepting the petition filed by Kishore Biyani demanding quashing of the criminal action. The court said that the petitioner does not live in the local jurisdiction of Gorakhpur court. Therefore, it was necessary to investigate him before issuing summons.

In the case, an allegation was made against the petitioner by M/s Maa Durga Enterprises, Gorakhpur that during the period from February 2020 to June 2020, it supplied food products worth more than Rs 12 lakh to the applicant, but did not return the money. After this, a complaint was lodged against the petitioner before the bench of Gorakhpur Civil Judge Senior Division by alleging him under various sections of IPC including fraud. Judicial Magistrate Senior Division took action and first issued summons and then non-bailable warrant against the petitioner. The petitioner filed a petition in the High Court demanding cancellation of the District Court action.
