New Delhi, 26 April (HS). Expressing concern over the condition of maintenance of files in the record rooms of the district courts of Delhi, the Delhi High Court has directed to speed up the work of sorting the files. A bench headed by Acting Chief Justice Manmohan directed the Principal District and Sessions Judges of all district courts to take steps to weed out the case records and monitor it regularly.
During the hearing, the High Court administration informed that necessary amendments have been made in the files of the cases. Small cases and cases of historical importance have been selected. A committee has been formed in every district court to monitor it. The High Court administration said that in the quarter from January to March, 191512 files have been marked for sorting. Out of them, about 52 thousand files have been sorted.
The High Court said that it cannot turn a blind eye to the fact that the condition of maintenance of files in the district courts is very poor and the work of sorting them should be expedited. The sorting of files should be monitored at regular intervals. After that, the High Court directed the Principal District and Sessions Judges of all the district courts to file the report of sorting of files in the High Court every quarter.
In fact, petitioner Karan S Thukral has filed the petition saying that lawyers and parties have to use an insecure drop box to submit various applications related to pending cases. In some courts, the Court Master or Reader receives these applications but does not issue an acknowledgment in return. In such a situation, many applications often go missing, or there are allegations of not submitting some documents.
