Chandigarh: Haryana's controversial Dera Sacha Sauda president Ram Rahim has been acquitted by the Haryana-Punjab High Court in the murder case of former Dera manager Ranjit Singh. In this 2002 murder case, Ram Rahim and four others were sentenced to life imprisonment and 20 years imprisonment by the CBI court in 2021. Which was challenged by the Dera president in the High Court. In this case, the High Court has released all five.
Ranjit Singh was shot dead in 2002 in Khanpur village of Kurukshetra, Haryana. Ranjit Singh had released a letter revealing the rape and exploitation of women in the Dera. Investigation revealed that he was murdered, the main accused in this murder was Dera chief Ram Rahim.
According to the CBI chargesheet, Ranjeet Singh had exposed the illegal activities going on in the Dera, due to which a conspiracy was hatched to kill him.
In 2017, Ram Rahim was sentenced to life imprisonment in the case of rape of two girls working in a camp, after which he is lodged in Rohtak jail in Haryana. Ram Rahim has come out on parole several times in various cases against him. At present, he has been released in the murder case, but he will still be kept in jail in the rape case.
