Lebanon's Hezbollah rebel group has elected Naim Qasim as its new leader. Nearly a month after the death of Hassan Nasrallah, Hezbollah has elected its leader. Importantly, Hassan Nasrallah was killed in an Israeli airstrike last month.
Hezbollah issued a statement saying that Naim Qasim would replace Hassan Nasrallah in the group. Qassem had long served as an ally of Nasrallah, and has been acting as Hezbollah's acting leader since his death.
Changed leader after three decades
Importantly, Hassan Nasrallah led the group for nearly three decades. Under Nasrallah, Hezbollah has strengthened its roots in Lebanon. Hezbollah's decision-making Shura Council has elected Naim Qasim as its new leader after long deliberations.
Work on Hassan Nasrallah's policy
Hezbollah's statement made it clear that it will continue to work on Nasrallah's policies until victory is achieved and will not leave Al-Aqsa and the Palestinians alone. In such a situation, Naeem Qasim will try to boost the morale of his fighters while countering the Israeli attack.
