The practice of fraternal pluralism is common among Tibetans in areas of China and Nepal. Based on the belief that a child can have more than one father, usually two or more brothers marry the same woman.

This practice is encouraged if the family is poor and their property cannot be shared by the father. So he marries a lonely woman and sets out to protect his small land and property. Because they are married to the same woman and live in the same house. It testifies to a family and a household. In this way the property remains undivided.
