People's problems have increased after snowfall in Himachal Pradesh. Till Tuesday evening, 263 roads including four national highways had to be closed in the area. 661 power transformers have also been closed due to snowfall. Heavy snowfall is also occurring in Jammu-Kashmir and Leh.
According to the Meteorological Department, Rohtag Pass received the highest snowfall of 135 cm in the state in the last 24 hours. 90 cm of snow fell in Kilar (Pangi), 45 cm in Chitkul and Jalori Jot, 44 cm in Kumkumseri, 39 cm in Gondla.
Due to heavy snowfall, Lahaul Valley's road connectivity with the country and the world has been cut off. Lahaul-Spiti district administration has also expressed fear of avalanche.
Electricity supply is disrupted in many areas since Sunday night. 301 power transformers are closed in Lahaul-Spiti and 67 in Kullu.
According to the Shimla Meteorological Centre, an orange alert has been issued for heavy rain and snowfall in Chamba, Kullu and Lahaul-Spiti forts of the region.
