Mumbai: Heavy rains in Kalyan-Dombivli and Ulhasnagar on Thursday put paid to the municipal corporation's claim of cleaning drains and sewers and more than 400 houses in Pisavali area on Kalyan-Sheel Road were flooded with water up to their knees. Angry people surrounded the assistant municipal commissioner who went to take stock of the situation.
People have demanded compensation from the Municipal Corporation as the claims of cleanliness in the recent rains appeared hollow. As soon as heavy rains started on Thursday morning, many areas were flooded. Grains, carpets, household items and other items in the house got wet.
In Pisavali, 400 houses were inundated after a builder blocked a drain in the area and erected a structure. The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation did not pay heed to the issue, causing inconvenience to hundreds of people, with fish being blamed on the municipality.
In Ulhasnagar and Diva, due to the drains not being cleaned, waterlogging occurred in the first rain itself. In Ulhasnagar, the main road of Shantinagar was filled with so much water that traffic was stopped. Therefore, the employees of Ulhasnagar Municipality were deployed to remove the water and the help of the fire brigade was also taken. Meanwhile, when a tree fell in Ulhasnagar Camp No. 4, the fire brigade's bomb reached there, but the front and rear wheels of this bomb got stuck in the mud, so another bomb had to be sent.
