Weather Updates : A cloudburst in Himachal Pradesh's Kullu district caused a flash flood in the Tosh canal, washing away a bridge and some shops. However, no casualties have been reported. While torrential rains in Manipur and Tamil Nadu have caused landslides, killing five people, including a woman and her newborn son. While there is still relief from the calamity raining from the sky, the Meteorological Department has issued a rain alert in 20 states.
IMD alert in 20 states
According to the Meteorological Department, red alert and orange alert for heavy to very heavy rains have been declared in many areas of 20 states and union territories from northwest and central to northeast and south India. This alert has been given for the next four to five days.
Cloud burst in Kullu, massive destruction in Tosh area
Kullu Deputy Commissioner Toru S. Ravish said that cloudburst on Tuesday morning has caused massive destruction in Tosh area of Manikaran. As soon as we got the information, we immediately sent rescue teams to those places and started rescue operations. Apart from this, the situation here is also being assessed. He has advised people to stay away from rivers and lakes. Apart from this, people living around rivers and lakes have also been appealed to move to safer places.
Landslides in Manipur and Tamil Nadu, five killed
A village in Tamenglong district of Manipur was hit by a landslide due to heavy rains, killing a woman and her newborn child. Several houses have also been swept away in the landslide, as well as a jawan injured, whose condition is critical. Heavy rains have occurred in different parts of the state in the last one day. There have been separate incidents of landslides after heavy rains in Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu, in which three people have died. An immediate rescue operation was launched after receiving reports of several people being trapped under the house in the landslide that occurred on Monday night, the bodies were removed from under the debris on Tuesday.
Alert for these states
The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert of heavy to very heavy rains in Madhya Maharashtra from August 1 to August 3, in coastal Karnataka from July 31 to August 1, in Konkan and Goa from July 30 to August 3, in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh from August 1 to August 3, in Uttarakhand from July 30 to August 1, while in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, an orange alert has been issued from July 31 to August 1.
Seven killed due to lightning in Jharkhand
Seven people, including two children, were killed and four others injured in lightning strikes in Jharkhand on Tuesday. Officials said four people died in Ranchi district and three in Chatara district. The injured have been admitted to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences in Ranchi.
