Heavy rain forecast in Kangra district, people appealed to be cautious

Dharamshala, 6 August (HS). The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rain at some places in Kangra district in the next 24 hours and has urged the general public to remain alert. Due to the warning issued by the Meteorological Department, Deputy Commissioner Kangra Hem Raj Bairwa has appealed to all citizens and tourists not to go near the banks of rivers and streams. He urged that in view of heavy rains, unnecessary travel should not be undertaken, people should stay in safe places and they should not take any kind of risk.

Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa said that due to heavy rains, regular monitoring of water level in Beas river is being ensured. In this regard, under the Disaster Management Act, it will be necessary for BBMB to send a report to the District Disaster Management Authority about the water level in the dam every day at 6 am and 4 pm. Along with this, water will have to be released when the water level reaches 1350 feet so that the water level in the dam does not reach the danger level. Along with this, it will also be necessary to alert the people living downstream before releasing the water so that people do not have to face any kind of loss like last year.

Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa said that the district administration is fully prepared for relief and rehabilitation work and all the officers are stationed in the field with machinery. Machinery like JCB has also been deployed in the district where landslides etc. are taking place on the roads. Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa urged the district residents to immediately contact the toll free number 1077 of the District Disaster Management Center in case of any kind of emergency. Disaster Management Centers are operational 24 hours a day in all the sub-divisions including the district headquarters. Disaster Management Centers will remain open in all the sub-divisions including the district headquarters.
