Posts

Many districts of Uttar Pradesh, especially the Purvanchal region, are currently facing the biggest challenge of the weather. The next 48 hours may be full of crisis here. The situation is most serious in Gorakhpur and surrounding areas, where people are facing the triple blow of cold, fog and deadly pollution.

Why is there ‘triple’ attack in Gorakhpur?

1. Deadly Pollution: The air of Gorakhpur has become poisonous at dangerous levels. The Air Quality Index (AQI) here has gone from ‘very poor’ to ‘severe’ category. The situation is so bad that according to experts, breathing the air here is as dangerous as smoking 7-8 cigarettes a day. The level of pollution is so high that even healthy people may experience difficulty in breathing and burning sensation in the throat. This situation is very worrying for sensitive people and children and the elderly.

2. Dense Fog: Excessive moisture and pollution particles together are creating deadly fog (smog). Visibility becomes almost zero in the morning and evening, due to which the speed of vehicles on the roads has stopped. The risk of accidents on the highway has increased. People have to drive with headlights of their vehicles on even during the day.

3. Severe cold: The icy winds coming from the mountains have increased the chill in the plains. The day temperature has also gone much below normal, due to which one is shivering even during the day. It has become difficult to see sunlight, due to which people are not getting any respite from the cold.

Be careful in the next 48 hours

Agencies monitoring weather and pollution estimate that no major relief is expected from this dangerous situation for the next two-three days. The administration has appealed to the people not to leave their homes unless absolutely necessary, especially in the morning and evening. It has been advised to take special care of children and the elderly and respiratory patients have been asked to wear N95 masks when going out.
