Heat wave continues in Saudi Arabia, death toll of pilgrims crosses 1300, know how many are Indians?

Saudi Arabia Hajj 2024 News : Hajj 2024 is currently underway in the holy Mecca Sharif in Saudi Arabia. Heat has become the biggest challenge for pilgrims from all over the world. It is reported that more than 1300 pilgrims have lost their lives so far due to extreme heat during the holy pilgrimage this year. This includes a large number of Indian pilgrims.

The death toll has crossed 1,300

Saudi Arabia's Health Minister Fahad al-Jalal said a total of 1,301 people had died during this year's Hajj. State television quoted the minister as saying pilgrims died because they walked long distances in direct sunlight without adequate shelter or rest.

Rising mercury becomes a problem

The dead include many elderly people and those suffering from chronic diseases. About 83 percent of the deaths occurred among those who were not authorized to perform Hajj. This year the temperature in Mecca has exceeded 52 degrees which is no less than a big disaster for the pilgrims.

How many Indians lost their lives

According to the official figures of the Indian Foreign Ministry, till Friday, about 98 Indians have lost their lives during this year's pilgrimage. However, the Foreign Ministry has said that the cause of death of all these people is illness and old age. Every year a large number of people go for Haj. This year also about 175000 Muslims have reached Saudi Arabia to perform Haj.
