Hearing on the sentence period of AAP MLA Prakash Jarwal postponed

New Delhi, May 18 (Hindustan Reporter) Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court has postponed the hearing on the sentence period of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Deoli MLA Prakash Jarwal, who was convicted in the doctor suicide case. Special Judge Kaveri Baweja ordered the next hearing on July 9.

Today, an affidavit was filed by Delhi Police giving details of the expenses incurred by the prosecution in defending the case. Today the court ordered to give a copy of the affidavit regarding their property filed on behalf of the three convicts to the Legal Aid Authority. The court directed the Legal Aid Authority to file a report after assessing the paying capacity of the culprits and the impact on the victim.

The court also ordered hearing on July 9 on the petition filed by Brahmavati Devi, wife of the suicide doctor, seeking permission to assist the court in deciding the compensation for the family.

Let us tell you that on February 28, the court had declared all three accused guilty. The court had convicted Prakash Jarwal and Kapil Nagar under sections 306, 34, 120B, 386, 506 and 511 of the Indian Penal Code. The court had convicted Harish Kumar Jarwal under section 506 of the Indian Penal Code. In this case, the court acquitted Harish Jarwal of charges under sections 306 and 386, while ordering charges under section 506 to be framed.

On August 28, 2021, Delhi Police had filed a supplementary charge sheet against three accused including Prakash Jarwal. Apart from Prakash Jarwal, Kapil Nagar and Harish Kumar Jarwal were made accused in this case. On April 18, 2020, Dr. Rajendra Singh committed suicide. The doctor had committed suicide by hanging himself in his house. Police had recovered a two-page suicide note from the doctor. Prakash Jarwal and Kapil Nagar were held responsible in the suicide note. The police had also recovered a diary in which the doctor had stated that some water tankers were running in the Jal Board. In the diary, Prakash Jarwal was accused of demanding money for those tankers.
