New Delhi, 04 December (HS). The statement of complainant Barkha Singh could not be recorded in the Rouse Avenue Court of Delhi on Wednesday in the case registered against the accused and former chairperson of the Commission and MP Swati Maliwal in the matter of irregularities in appointments in the Delhi Women’s Commission. Special judge Jitendra Singh ordered the next hearing of the case on December 18.
During the hearing today, the court was told that the health of the complainant Barkha Singh is unwell and the doctor has advised her to take rest for 15 days. After that the court postponed the hearing of the case. Rouse Avenue Court had ordered framing of charges against four accused including Swati Maliwal in December 2022.
Swati Maliwal had challenged the order framing charges in the High Court. The High Court had rejected Maliwal’s petition. Apart from Swati Maliwal, the people against whom Rouse Avenue Court had ordered framing of charges include commission members Promila Gupta, Sarika Chaudhary and Farheen Malik. The court had ordered framing of charges against the four accused under Section 120 (B) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 13 (2), 13 (1) (D) of the Anti-Corruption Act.
In fact, former MLA Barkha Singh had complained to the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) on August 11, 2016, alleging that people associated with the Aam Aadmi Party were appointed to the Delhi Women Commission, bypassing the rules. In the complaint, the names of three people appointed to the Commission, who were associated with the Aam Aadmi Party, were mentioned. In the complaint given to the ACB, a list of 85 people associated with AAP was also given, who were claimed to have been appointed to the Commission. After preliminary investigation on this, ACB had registered an FIR under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
