Health department alert to deal with heat stroke as well as vector borne diseases

Lucknow, 23 April (HS). Health units in Uttar Pradesh are fully prepared to deal with any case of heat stroke as well as vector borne diseases like malaria, dengue, chikungunya etc. The Health Department is also taking active cooperation of other departments and local bodies for disease prevention related activities. The Education Department is one of our most important partners. People have to be self-aware about the dos and don'ts to avoid heat-related and vector-borne diseases and take adequate precautions. Principal Secretary Medical Health and Family Welfare Partha Sarathi Sen Sharma said this in connection with the program organized under the joint aegis of Health and Education Department on Tuesday. At present, twelve departments in the state are cooperating in a special communicable disease control campaign to deal with heat stroke and vector-borne diseases.

In this program organized with the aim of strengthening community awareness towards communicable diseases, more than 150 students of six inter colleges gathered at UP Government Sainik School. Experts told them about the symptoms of various communicable diseases and ways of prevention. Students displayed many informative posters and attractive paintings related to communicable disease control campaign. Five youth champions of the school, Kashish, Anshika, Varshika, Akanksha and Prachi, who led the filariasis eradication campaign last February and performed street plays in the school and health center, were honored by Joint Director Malaria, Dr. Vikas Singhal.

Dr. Singhal in his address said that the Health Department is utilizing the strength of educational institutions as important platforms for information and activities on prevention of communicable diseases. If the youth becomes completely aware and starts paying attention to the prevention methods around them, then we will be able to control communicable diseases well.

Dr Monica Aggarwal, Head of the Department of Community Medicine, KGMU, said that this initiative is not just about preventive measures. It is also about empowering our youth and their communities to take responsibility for their health.
