Bettiah, July 22 (HS). On Monday, CHO and lady doctors specially checked the health of pregnant women at many health and wellness centers including Bettiah, Nautan, Bagaha of West Champaran. Health fairs were also organized at various places while running a campaign under the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Yojana in all the health centers of the district. During the ANC checkup of pregnant women, many other tests were done along with BP, sugar, weight, blood percentage. During this, the health of other women was also checked.
At the health centres, information was given about the gap between children and having children at the right time, and about permanent methods of family planning, while condoms and contraceptive materials were also distributed as temporary means. During this, Dr Preeti Kumari of the Narkatiaganj sub-divisional hospital told the pregnant women who came to the hospital about how to stay safe from high risks during pregnancy, and also advised them to take 180 tablets of iron and calcium before delivery and 180 tablets for 6 months after delivery.
Pregnant women were advised to maintain good lifestyle, cleanliness, food habits etc. for better health. Dr. Preeti Kumari said that ANC checkup of pregnant women is necessary for safe and normal delivery. This keeps both the mother and the child healthy. The first checkup should be done till the 12th week of pregnancy, the second checkup from the 14th to the 26th week, the third from the 28th to the 32nd week and the last checkup from the 34th to before delivery. During this time, the advice given to pregnant women should be followed.
The district's Additional Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ramesh Chandra and DCM Rajesh Kumar said that pregnant women are examined by organizing camps on 9th and 21st of every month at government health centers.
Dr Chandra said that to avoid anaemia during pregnancy, regular intake of spinach, green vegetables, fish, milk and eggs etc. is necessary. These increase the amount of iron in the body. Excessive consumption of tea and coffee should be avoided during pregnancy. Stress should be avoided and good sleep should be taken. Beetroot, dry fruits and seasonal fruits should also be consumed.
