Mumbai: The Bombay high court has pulled up the police for not recording the supplementary statement of victim Priya Singh in a case in which Aswajit Gaikwad, son of a bureaucrat, was allegedly run over by a car in Thane last December.
The judge said, since the victim has to make repeated requests to record her statement in the case, we are heartbroken to see the case diary and investigation record. The bench of Gadkari and Justice Gokhale said. The petition filed by social media influencer Priya Singh to register a case of attempted murder against Gaikwad was being heard.
On April 22, the High Court directed the police to record Singh's supplementary statement. At that time, the public prosecutor told the court that the investigation was ongoing and efforts were being made. The case diary states that since the report has been sent to the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal, it is necessary to obtain the necessary documents from Singh. Such recording in the case diary is not acceptable. An investigating officer was not appointed to file a claim for damages.
The court has directed the Thane Joint Commissioner of Police to file an affidavit after reading the application and examining the records. The court has also directed the Joint Commissioner not to delegate his authority to anyone. A lot can be said about the way the investigation is being conducted, but we do not want to make any comment until the affidavit is filed. The court has fixed the hearing on June 27.
On the day of the incident, there was a dispute between Singh and Gaikwad. It is alleged that Singh was carrying Gaikwad's luggage in the car, when Gaikwad, who was driving the car, hit him and seriously injured him.
