Rajasthan is famous for its historical sites, some magnificent palaces and ancient stories that captivate the hearts of travelers. Jodhpur, also known as the “Blue City”, is no exception. Taj Mahal is also a popular monument here
Jaswant Thada is called the Taj Mahal of Mewar. This attraction surrounded by lakes and greenery is very much liked by the tourists. Pure marble was used in its construction. The Raj Mahal of Rajasthan is completely different from the Taj Mahal of Agra. You can also see small domes in Jaswant Thada. It was given here by Maharaja Jaswant Singh II.
Importance and Creation:
Named after Maharaja Jaswant Singh II, Jaswant Thada is built entirely of white marble. Often called the “Taj Mahal of Mewar”, it bears witness to the meticulous use of pure marble in its construction. However, a comparison with the Taj Mahal of Agra reveals the unique charm and architectural divergence of the Raj Mahal of Rajasthan.
This monument is made of white marble
It was built by Maharaja Sardar Singh, son of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. The construction cost of this miracle was approximately Rs 2,84,000. Maharaja Sardar Singh dedicated Jaswant Thada to his father by building a monument immortalizing the legacy of the rulers of Mewar.
Jaswant Thada displays exquisite carvings and artwork depicting the history of Mewar rulers. This monument is not only adorned with pristine white marble, but it also has red marble, which adds a unique perspective to this architectural marvel. From a distance, the domes and spires are reminiscent of Mughal architecture, giving an effect that enhances the grandeur of the structure.
Attractions for visitors:
Local folk musicians often welcome tourists to Jaswant Thada, adding a cultural touch to the experience. The intricate carvings, lush green lawns and stunning architecture of the rooms and pillars make it a picturesque destination. The site also features portraits of early rulers, giving visitors a glimpse of the history of the region.
