Has Yuzvendra Chahal retired for India? Know whether the leg spinner will really never play international cricket again

The sudden decision of retirement taken by the Indian cricket team’s star leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has created a stir on social media. As soon as this news came out, concerns and questions started rising among the cricket fans whether Chahal will ever be seen playing cricket for India again? Along with this, the discussion also intensified whether Chahal will now not be able to participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL)? Some people also claimed that he has said goodbye to international cricket to play T20 franchise leagues around the world. However, you will be relieved to know that all these claims and speculations are completely baseless and wrong.

The real situation is that leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has announced his retirement from only first class i.e. red ball cricket. This means that now he will never be seen playing Test cricket for India in future, and his dream of not being able to make his Test debut remains unfulfilled, because despite playing 72 ODI and 80 T20 International matches in his career, he was never able to play a Test match.

This does not at all mean that Chahal can no longer play ODI or T20 International matches for India. Although at present he is not a regular part of the team in both these white ball formats, but the doors are wide open for him to make a comeback in the future. He has not retired from the limited overs format of international cricket.

Reminiscing about his red-ball cricket career, Chahal emotionally said that his last first-class match played at Lord’s was the end of a very meaningful chapter and he will always be grateful for the entire journey. He also emphasized that his entire cricket career is not over yet and he is hopeful that in future he will definitely get another opportunity to represent India in ODI and T20 International matches.

Chahal will also be seen playing for India in limited overs format in domestic cricket. Moreover, since he has not retired from IPL or T20 cricket, he will be seen showcasing his brilliant bowling in the upcoming IPL season as well.
