Mobile as soon as you wake up in the morning, computer screen in the office throughout the day and TV or laptop again at night… the worst effect of this digital life is falling on our eyes. Eye irritation, dryness, itching and premature wearing of glasses have now become common.
If you also want to give rest to your tired eyes and regain their lost shine, then Ayurveda has an age-old and miraculous solution for this – eye offering,
What is this ‘Netra Tarpan’ therapy?
‘Netra Tarpan’ is a Sanskrit word, which means ‘to nourish the eyes’. This is a kind of Ayurvedic eye-spa, in which the eyes are massaged with lukewarm ghee or oil having medicinal properties. In this process, a boundary (or dam) of urad dal flour is made around the eyes and then medicated ghee is filled in it.
It may sound a bit strange, but this therapy is no less than magic for the eyes.
How does this therapy work and what are its benefits?
When lukewarm ghee with medicinal properties comes in contact with the eyes, it relaxes the eye muscles and penetrates deep inside the eyes to nourish them. Its regular use has many benefits:
- Get rid of dry eye syndrome: People who work on screens for hours face the problem of dryness in their eyes or ‘dry eye syndrome’. Netra Tarpan returns moisture to the eyes and helps in eliminating this problem from its roots.
- Relaxes tired and stressed eyes: This therapy reduces the tension of the eye muscles, thereby removing fatigue and heaviness in the eyes.
- Improves eyesight: Netra Tarpan strengthens the nerves of the eyes and improves blood circulation, which gradually improves eyesight. It is also very beneficial for those children who have got glasses at an early age.
- Reduce dark circles: The problem of dark circles also reduces due to better blood circulation around the eyes.
- Relief from allergies and irritation: This therapy also provides relief from frequent allergies, itching and burning sensation in the eyes.
How is this process done?
This is a very comfortable procedure, which should be done only under the supervision of a specialist.
- First of all the person is made to lie down comfortably.
- Then, a circular dam is made with urad dal paste around the eyes, so that the ghee does not flow out.
- After this, the pre-prepared medicated ghee is heated and slowly filled inside this dam, until the eyelashes are completely immersed in the ghee.
- The person is asked to open and close their eyes slowly for a few minutes, so that the ghee can reach every corner of the eyes.
- After the prescribed time, the ghee is removed and the eyes are cleaned with lukewarm water.
This therapy is a boon for all those people who overuse their eyes. It not only removes eye problems but also gives peace and tranquility to the mind.
