For Mithila's very special festival Bhadra Shukla Paksha Chaturthi Chandra Puja, worshipping on Friday, 6th, in the evening during Pradosh Kaal will be considered the best. According to Pandit Tarun Jha, just as Chhath festival is celebrated to worship the Sun God, similarly the festival of Chaurchan is celebrated to worship the Moon God. Worshipping the Moon in Chaurchan during the evening during Pradosh Kaal will be auspicious. On this day, fasting is observed from morning till evening. In the evening, Aripan is prepared by grinding Pithar.
Sweet dishes, kheer, sweets and fruits etc. are kept on this festival. Buttermilk curd has a lot of importance in this festival. The moon is worshiped on Chaturthi along with Rohini Nakshatra. After this, a branch full of dishes and a vessel of buttermilk curd are offered to the Moon God.
