Happy Heart Syndrome: The extreme happiness of daughter’s marriage proved costly! Mother suffered a unique ‘heart attack’, doctors told the reason for this serious disease

Lucknow. We often hear that excessive sadness, shock or stress weakens a person’s heart and causes heart attack. But do you know that extreme happiness can also prove fatal for your heart? According to a special health and medical report of Zee News, one such shocking case has come to light, where a mother, who was extremely happy and emotional during the emotional moments of her daughter’s wedding and farewell, suddenly became seriously ill. After investigation, the doctors said that the woman was not a victim of a normal heart attack, but of a very rare medical condition, ‘Happy Heart Syndrome’, which in the language of medical science is called ‘Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy’.

Health suddenly deteriorated after daughter’s marriage, rare case comes to light

According to the report, after all the wedding functions were completed smoothly and after the daughter’s departure, the woman suddenly complained of severe chest pain, heaviness and difficulty in breathing. The family immediately admitted him to the cardiology department of the nearest hospital.

  • Heart attack like symptoms: In the initial ECG and blood test, all the symptoms looked exactly like a serious heart attack.

  • Angiography report shocked: When doctors performed coronary angiography to check for blockers in the veins of the woman’s heart, they were shocked. All the veins of the heart were completely clean and normal, that is, there was no blockage anywhere. After this, after a thorough investigation, it was found that the woman’s heart had become temporarily weak due to extreme emotional surge.

What is ‘Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy’ or ‘Happy Heart Syndrome’?

Doctors have shared some important information explaining the neuro-cardiac connection behind this disease:

  1. Changing the shape of the heart (Left Ventricle Ballooning): In this disease, due to extreme happiness or extreme sadness, the level of stress hormones (such as adrenaline) in the body suddenly increases very rapidly. This hormone temporarily paralyzes or numbs the lower part of the heart (Left Ventricle), causing the lower part of the heart to swell like a balloon (as shown in the right part of the picture above).

  2. Mystery of the Japanese name: The shape of this swollen heart resembles a special vessel used to catch octopus (a sea creature) in Japan, which is called ‘Takotsubo’ there. That is why it was named ‘Takotsubo cardiomyopathy’. It is also commonly called ‘Broken Heart Syndrome’, but when it occurs with extreme happiness, it is called ‘Happy Heart Syndrome’.

Women are at greatest risk, doctors gave important advice

Cardiologists say that this disease is most seen in postmenopausal women above 50 years of age compared to men. Due to lack of estrogen hormone in the body, women’s heart becomes more sensitive to sudden emotional changes.

The good thing is that unlike a normal heart attack, in Happy Heart Syndrome the heart muscles are not permanently damaged. With the help of proper medical care, supportive therapy and medications, the patient’s heart completely returns to its old and normal size in a few weeks or months. Doctors have advised that during any big family or social celebration where there are highly emotional moments, take deep breaths to keep the heart and breathing rhythm normal and try to avoid excessive excitement.
