Chaitra Durga Ashtami is an auspicious Hindu festival which is celebrated with great pomp across the country. This day is dedicated to the eight incarnations of Maa Durga especially Maa Gauri. One of the most popular traditions on the second last day of Ashtami is the special Kumari Punjan where nine young girls are worshiped as Navadurga and delicious prasad of chana, puri and semolina halwa is served.
Many devotees also observe fast on Maha Ashtami. Some people abstain from food completely while others consume only fruits and milk. This year Chaitra Durga Ashtami is being celebrated on Tuesday, April 16, 2024.
