Jerusalem, 17 May (HIST). Champions League club Hapoel Jerusalem has won the Israeli Basketball State Cup title. Hapoel Jerusalem captured the title by defeating EuroLeague team Maccabi Tel Aviv 85–72 in the final in front of 11,000 fans at the Menorah Mivtachim Arena in Tel Aviv on Thursday night.
It was Jerusalem's eighth State Cup win, and second consecutive win after defeating Maccabi in the previous season's final.
Jerusalem showed strong defense in the opening minutes and took a 10–2 lead, but thanks to an excellent performance from Bonzi Colson, Maccabi took a 23–16 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Maccabi continued its momentum in the second quarter with Roman Sorkin's points and rebounds leading 46–37 at halftime.
Thanks to an assist from Speedy Smith and points from Nimrod Levi and Jacory Williams, Jerusalem led a spectacular 31-10 third quarter comeback that completely changed the game. Jerusalem led 68–56 at the end of the third quarter.
Smith continued to shine in the decisive quarter and with points from Khadin Carrington and Levi Randoff, Jerusalem won 85–72.
Williams scored a game-high 21 points for Jerusalem, while Randolph added 17 and Carrington added 16. Smith contributed 12 points and 15 assists. Sorkin was Maccabi's top scorer with 17 points.
