New Delhi, July 16 (HS). The final phase of the budget preparation process for the Union Budget 2024-25 began on Tuesday with the traditional Halwa Ceremony in the presence of Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman at the Ministry of Finance (North Block) here. Sitharaman will present the Union Budget 2024-25 in Parliament on July 23.
In a statement issued by the Finance Ministry, it was said that the Halwa Ceremony was organized in the North Block in the presence of Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Sitharaman distributed halwa to the members of the budget press and the employees of the Finance Ministry present on the occasion. Halwa Ceremony is organized every year as a tradition before the budget is finalized.
Why is Halwa Ceremony held before the budget?
Just before presenting the Union Budget, a Halwa Ceremony is organized. This Halwa Ceremony signifies that the budget has been finalized and the work of its printing has begun. In this ceremony, the Finance Minister expresses his gratitude to the officers and employees of the Finance Ministry who prepared the budget.
According to the ministry, after the presentation of the budget by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Parliament on July 23, 2024, the budget document of the Union Budget 2024-25 will be available on both Android and Apple OS platforms after the speech is completed. Along with this, it will also be available in English and Hindi on the “Union Budget Mobile App”. Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary along with Finance Secretary, Chairmen of Income Tax Department and CBIC, as well as officials of the Ministry of Finance and North Block Budget Press also attended the Halwa Ceremony.
