Bollywood’s beautiful and seasoned actress Dia Mirza has recently shared a very bold and unheard story related to her early career and film journey. Dia, who debuted with ‘Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein’ in 2001, said that shooting a song was one of the most difficult challenges for her in the initial phase of her career. In this song, she had to take off her clothes in front of hundreds of crew members and junior artists present on the set. However, Diya believes that this entire experience completely freed her from many types of mental restrictions, hesitations and social thinking in life.
In a recent interview, Dia Mirza talked about the film directed by Anurag Basu and Mohit Suri, released in 2004. ‘Tumsa Nahi Dekha: A Love Story’ Mentioned, in which Emraan Hashmi was in the lead role.

As per the demand of the script, Dia had to take off her clothes and shoot only in innerwear (bra and underwear) in this scene. Dia told, “As a girl, this was the most difficult task of my life for me, because there were more than 100 men (crew and crowd) present in front of me on the set”.
Dia Mirza shared that she belonged to a very conservative and traditional family in Hyderabad. In the beginning she was not very confident about her body and body image.
Dia said, “While working in that film, I had many preconceived notions and hesitations in my mind, which I broke. I was very shy about my body. But shooting that one song ‘Mujhe Tumse Mohabbat Hai’ completely unshackled me from my own insecurities and taught me to trust my body.”
Describing this experience as ’empowering’, Dia said that the team present on the set made her feel very safe.
She said, “Mahesh Bhatt, Emraan Hashmi and the entire team gave me complete respect. That day I realized that I can be regardless of the male gaze. No one’s gaze can make me feel uncomfortable or inferior. I learned to openly accept and celebrate my feminine energy and my beauty”.
During the interview, Dia Mirza also spoke openly about the pressure faced by actresses in the film industry to constantly look beautiful. He said that the desire to look beautiful and perfect all the time has to pay a big price and that price is your ‘peace of mind’.
Dia said, “In this journey of 25 years, I have worked on myself. I do not want to get trapped in this blind race of beauty, but want to live as a person who is calm and satisfied from within.”
Dia Mirza has recently appeared in the Netflix series ‘Operation Safed Sagar’ based on the 1999 Kargil war and remains active on social and environmental issues.
