From the platform of the 81st high-level session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), India has blasted Pakistan’s hypocrisy and propaganda regarding cross-border terrorism. In the national address of India, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar hit back at Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s false claims without directly naming him. He termed Pakistan as a ‘serial practitioner of terrorism’ that tries to normalize terrorism and avoid its consequences.
Dr. Jaishankar said in strong words that no country can claim international sympathy or immunity by promoting terrorism. He gave a clear message that friendship and goodwill can never co-exist with terrorism. If a country adopts cross-border terrorism as a government policy, then any kind of understanding or agreement with it will naturally come into question.
Addressing the United Nations General Assembly, the External Affairs Minister said that on Friday, a habitual perpetrator of terrorism completely distorted the facts on this platform.

Claim of immunity from terrorism rejected: Jaishankar said, “Yesterday the facts were misrepresented before this House by a habitual promoter of terrorism. Sophistry was given to normalize terrorism and protect ourselves from its consequences. This will absolutely not be accepted.”

Right of self-defense reserved: The External Affairs Minister reiterated in a strong tone that India will fully exercise its sovereignty against terrorism and its sovereign right to protect its citizens.

Responsibility of promoter to improve: Showing a mirror to the neighboring country, he said, “Friendship and goodwill cannot co-exist with terrorism. Now it is up to those who promote terrorism to mend their ways and habits.”

Insult of global order: He underlined that when terrorism operates under state patronage and with cross-border strategies, it becomes a direct attack on the entire global rules-based order.

Accountability of governments should be fixed: Governments that harbor terrorism and provide financial support to terrorists should be held accountable in international forums.

Disclosure of terrorist funding necessary: Jaishankar said there should be no laxity in the ‘zero tolerance’ approach towards terrorism and its financial network should be exposed and destroyed immediately.
In his speech, Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, along with singing the praises of Kashmir, had made baseless allegations against India regarding the Indus Water Agreement. In response, India made it clear that normal bilateral cooperation is not possible until Pakistan completely eliminates the terrorist networks operating from its soil.
Referring to the historical words of Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. Jaishankar reminded global leaders that “There is no path to peace, peace is the only path.” But this peace can be established only when cross-border violence, terrorism and extremism are rooted out.
