An H-1B visa employee who is fired from his job in the US, Jagat Jamadar, is given a grace period of 60 days as a rule. In the meantime, he can find another job in the US. But if he fails during this time, his H-1 visa status can be changed to another B-1 or B-2 visa. This means that a B-1 or B-2 tourist visa can stay in the US for up to six months. The US Immigration Department has issued a clarification on how a fired H-1B professional can stay in the US for an additional six months after the grace period.

Apart from this, they also have the option of F-1 visa i.e. student visa. This allows them to find another job with the expected long stay in the US. The Immigration Department said that professional visa applications are processed on a priority basis after receiving the visa application from the new employer.
