Gurugram: Welcomes the agreement deal with Singapore for semiconductors: Deepak Maini | News India

Gurugram, September 7 (HS). Deepak Maini, Chairman of Progressive Federation of India (PFTI) said that PFTI welcomes the deal made between the two countries regarding partnership in the semiconductor field during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Singapore. After signing the agreement in the field of semiconductors in the presence of the Prime Ministers of both the countries, the way for the entry of Singapore's semiconductor companies in India has become easier.

Deepak Maini said that steps should be taken towards setting up a plant for its manufacturing in Haryana as well. He said that PFTI has been demanding this for a long time. It has also given suggestions to the Haryana government in this regard. The agreement between Singapore and India has been named India Singapore Semiconductor Ecosystem Partnership. India will get many benefits from this agreement in the field of semiconductors. First, India will get an opportunity to develop talents in the field of semiconductors. Apart from this, information related to waste management of semiconductor industrial parks will also be shared with each other. There is a shortage of land and personnel in Singapore, whereas this is not the case in India. India can become a part of Singapore's semiconductor value chain.

Deepak Maini said that in March itself, a place has been identified to set up a semiconductor fabrication unit in Dholera, Gujarat. The Union Cabinet of India has signed a cooperation agreement between India and Japan on Japan-India Semiconductor Supply Chain Partnership in July 2023. This matter is also moving forward slowly. The Kenes Semicon unit in Sanand will have the capacity to produce 6 million chips per day which will meet the demand of a variety of industries including automotive, electric vehicles, consumer electronics, telecommunications and mobile phones.

He said that semiconductor is such an essential device which is used in every sector mainly in the manufacturing of automobile, electronics, mobile manufacturing, space technology, aviation sector and other engineering sectors. During the Covid-19 pandemic, due to the shortage of semiconductors, there was a severe crisis in the automobile, mobile manufacturing and electronics sector. The way there is an atmosphere of unrest at the global level today, the supply chain of semiconductors may be affected again. In such a situation, India needs to be self-reliant in this matter.
