Guru Nanak Dev ji was born in 1469 AD in Talwandi of Rai-Bhoi, which is now in Pakistan, this place is known today as Nankana Sahib. His father's name was Mehta Kalu and mother's name was Tripta Devi. His elder sister's name was Bebe Nanaki. He was serious since childhood.
When he sent himself to Pandit for studies, he surprised Pandit with his intelligence. When he was asked to wear the sacred thread, he refused to wear it, calling it a false ritual. When his father used to send him to graze the cattle, he used to remain engrossed in devotion to God and the cattle used to enter people's fields and people used to come and praise his father.
