Gujarat GDP Contribution: Maharashtra and Gujarat have been leading in contributing to the country's GDP growth. However, for the first time in a decade, Maharashtra has weakened in terms of growth. The research paper released by the Economic Advisory Council has found that Gujarat has given up on this matter.
Maharashtra's contribution to India's GDP growth has declined by 2.1 percent in the last decade. Whereas Gujarat's GDP contribution has increased from 7.5 percent in 2010-11 to 8.1 percent in 2023-24.
Gujarat's GDP contribution increased
Maharashtra's contribution to GDP in 2010-11 was 15.2 percent. Which has been recorded at 13 percent in 2020-21 and 13.1 percent in 2023-24. Whereas in 2010-11, Gujarat's GDP contribution was 7.5 percent. Which has increased to 8 percent in 2020-21 and 8.1 percent in 2023-24. However, Maharashtra still ranks first in the country in terms of GDP contribution.
Gujarat's per capita income increased
Gujarat has left Maharashtra behind in terms of per capita income. From 1960 to 2010–11, Maharashtra's per capita income has always been higher than Gujarat's. But in the last decade, Gujarat has overtaken Maharashtra in this matter and the per capita income has increased by 160.7 percent. Whereas in Maharashtra 150 percent has been recorded. It is noteworthy that in 1960, the per capita income of Maharashtra was 133.7 percent and the per capita income of Gujarat was 118.3 percent.
Goa's per capita income doubled
According to this research paper, Goa's per capita income has doubled from 1970 to 2021. Goa's per capita income in 2020-23 was three times the country's average. This has been revealed in a research report titled Relative Economic Performance of Indian States: 1960-61 to 2023-24, written by Sanjeev Sanjay and Akanksha Arora.
Opposition raised issue
Maharashtra Assembly elections are to be held on November 20. In which the opposition has made this research report an issue and attacked the present government. NCP leader Sharad Pawar said that the decline in Maharashtra's per capita income and GDP growth is a matter of concern. Which is proof that the ruling party has failed to rule the state. Maharashtra always comes first in terms of GDP and per capita income. But the decline in ranking in the last decade is not justified.
