Monsoon is completely kind in many states across the country, but in Gujarat this time the rains have created an outcry. Especially in South Gujarat, there was such heavy torrential rain in just one day that catastrophic situations like deluge and flood were created in many areas.

Why was there such terrible rain in Gujarat?
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), three major weather systems are mainly responsible for this unexpected and torrential rain:

Strong south-west monsoon: The south-west monsoon is currently at its peak over Gujarat.

Moisture rising from the Arabian Sea: The moisture-laden monsoon winds from the Arabian Sea are continuously coming towards the coastal areas of Gujarat without any interruption.

Weather system stopped at one place: The low-pressure system formed over western India became stable at one place. Due to this, there was continuous accumulation of clouds in a limited area of South Gujarat and torrential rains continued for several hours.
Highest record breaking rainfall occurred in these areas
According to data from the State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC), rainfall has broken years’ records in the last 24 hours:

Umargam: the most 906 millimeters Rainfall was recorded, which was several times above normal and falls in the extremely rare category.

Dharampur: 499 millimeters

Pardi: 448 millimeters

Vapi and Valsad: Vapi recorded 413 mm rainfall and Valsad recorded 403 mm rainfall.

Tapi and Dang: Dolvan in Tapi received 378 mm rainfall and Waghai in Dang received 369 mm rainfall.
Rainfall 4 times more than normal, no relief in future also
According to meteorologists, if an area receives 204.5 mm or more rainfall within 24 hours, then it is classified as ‘Extremely Heavy Rainfall’. But in areas like Umbergaon, Kaprada and Valsad of Gujarat this standard 3 to 4 times more water It rained in a single day.
Due to heavy rains, the water level of rivers and streams has crossed the danger mark, train movement has been affected due to water logging on the tracks and life is completely disrupted. The Meteorological Department has warned that the monsoon system will remain the same in Gujarat for the next few days and there is no possibility of relief from heavy rains at the moment.
