Former Australian cricketer Greg Chappell has compared rising England star Harry Brook to the great Sachin Tendulkar. He praised Brook’s strong start to his international career and said that his early influence was even greater than that of Tendulkar.
In his column for the Sydney Morning Herald, Chappell wrote, “Harry Brook is an emerging batsman whose performance and approach I compare with the great Sachin Tendulkar. “Brook’s early career statistics show that he has left even the Indian legend behind in terms of impact at the same level.”
Brook made his debut for England in a Test against South Africa in 2022 and since then he has scored 2281 runs in 24 matches at an average of 58.48. In December last year, he had topped the rankings for Test batsmen. Chappell said that if we compare the first 15 Test matches of both the batsmen, Sachin had scored 837 runs at an average below 40, while Brook had scored 1378 runs at an average close to 60. “Sachin was very young at that time, while Brook is in his 20s,” he said.
Chappell also praised Brook’s approach, saying that Tendulkar was adept at using the bowler’s pace to his advantage, allowing him to score runs on both sides of the wicket. Brook, on the other hand, is a physically more powerful player and his passing ability is surprisingly similar.
