Greater Noida will shine with ‘Taiwan City’ with medical device park, world-class university township and semiconductor; Asia’s largest investment hub will be built near Jewar Airport

Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has started implementing its ambitious mega masterplan to establish the world’s most modern, integrated and future-oriented industrial metropolis in the National Capital Region (NCR) adjacent to the country’s capital Delhi. Amid the countdown to the operationalization of Noida International Airport (Jewar), Yamuna City is no longer just a typical residential or industrial area, but is going to become the largest hub of international investment, high-tech manufacturing, global education and cutting-edge health research. In this vision prepared to accelerate the goal of one trillion dollar economy of Uttar Pradesh government, ‘Taiwan City’ (Electronics and Semiconductor Cluster), the country’s largest ‘Medical Device Park’ and ‘Global University Township’ to be built on the lines of Oxford and Cambridge are the main pillars. This mega project has the potential to change the economic, geographical and employment scenario of entire North India forever.

‘Taiwan City’ will become a hub of semiconductor and high-tech electronics

Yamuna Authority’s biggest strategic bet towards establishing India as an alternative to China in the global supply chain is the construction of ‘Taiwan City’. This high-tech electronics and semiconductor manufacturing cluster, being developed exclusively around Sector 10 and Sector 28 of the Yamuna Expressway, is providing a complete ecosystem of Taiwan’s leading tech companies, chip designers and hardware manufacturers under one roof.

Taiwan manufactures more than 60% of the world’s semiconductors and more than 90% of advanced microchips. To leverage this experience, Yamuna City has been created with plug-and-play infrastructure, 24-hour uninterrupted high-voltage power supply, dedicated water treatment and zero-liquid discharge facilities. This Taiwan cluster will not only house semiconductor wafer fabrication units, but will also house large-scale production of automotive chips, display panels, 5G communication equipment, drone components and electric vehicle (EV) battery management systems. This step will reduce India’s dependence on foreign chips and Yamuna City will feature prominently on the global hardware map.

Country’s first state-of-the-art medical device park in 350 acres

In order to become self-reliant in the field of medical devices after the Corona epidemic, with the joint cooperation of the Central and Uttar Pradesh governments, the country’s first integrated ‘Medical Device Park’ is rapidly taking shape in an area of 350 acres in Sector 28. At present India imports about 70 to 80 percent of high-end diagnostic and surgical equipment from abroad. This medical hub of Yamuna City is going to change this picture completely.

The park has been designed to manufacture four major categories – cancer care and radiotherapy equipment, cardiology and neurology devices (e.g. pacemakers, stents), imaging equipment (MRI, CT scan, ultrasound) and robotic and laparoscopic surgical instruments. Central Laboratories, Prototyping Labs, 3D Bio-Printing Centres, EMI/EMC Testing Centers and Common Facility Centers (CFC) are being set up within the park. With this, medical equipment manufacturing startups and established pharma companies will be able to get the facility of testing on international standards at their own premises at a very low cost. This medical hub will prove to be a milestone in making the treatment of lakhs of serious patients affordable and attracting medical tourism.

Global University Township: A Confluence of International Universities

To make Yamuna City not just a city of factories but also a knowledge and innovation (R&D) capital, a huge ‘Educational Hub and University Township’ is being developed on more than 500 acres of land. Its objective is to provide an opportunity to millions of bright students of India to pursue world-class higher education, research and degree in their own country instead of going abroad.

Apart from India’s top technical and management institutions, prestigious foreign universities from America, UK, Australia and Europe are being invited to set up their full-fledged campuses and research wings in this education hub. Special research centers will be built here on cutting-edge subjects like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Quantum Computing, Biotechnology, Aerospace Engineering, Robotics, Sustainable Energy and Genetics. The University Township will have modern residential complexes for students and faculty members, sports complex, convention centre, open-air amphitheater and incubation hub, which will promote education as well as Industry-Academia Collaboration.

Multimodal connectivity: Bullet network of pod taxis, rapid rail and expressways

The success of any world-class city depends on its easy transportation system. Yamuna Authority has planned a multimodal transport grid to make this entire region one of the most connected zones in the world.

  • Noida International Airport (Jewar): The airport is located in the heart of Yamuna City, which is poised to become Asia’s largest aviation gateway in terms of both cargo and passenger traffic.

  • Pod Taxi Project (PRT): The country’s first personal rapid transit i.e. driverless ‘pod taxi’ will be run from Jewar Airport to International Film City and Medical Device Park, through which passengers will be able to travel within a few minutes without any traffic jam.

  • Namo Bharat (RRTS) and Metro Extension: Rapid rail from Ghaziabad to Jewar Airport and Delhi Metro will have direct connection with various sectors of Yamuna City, which will make commuting from Delhi, Gurugram and Faridabad very easy.

  • Expressway and Eastern Peripheral (EPE): The area is directly connected to every major industrial corridor of the country through direct connectivity with Yamuna Expressway, Eastern Peripheral Expressway, Delhi-Mumbai Expressway Link Road and Ganga Expressway.

Lakhs of employment opportunities and historic boom in real estate sector

Yamuna City’s three-pronged development model—industry, education and health—is expected to generate more than 5 lakh direct and indirect high-wage jobs over the next five years. Local youth, engineers, doctors, scientists and skilled workers will get global level career opportunities in their own home state.

Due to this huge industrial and educational investment, the real estate sector is witnessing an unprecedented boom on both sides of the Yamuna Expressway. The demand for residential plot schemes, group housing projects, commercial plazas, IT parks and warehousing-logistics hubs has increased manifold. Infrastructure development in areas like Sectors 18, 20, 22D, 22E and 29 is being done at international standards, including underground cabling, wide roads, green belts and smart water management systems.

Modern global city changing the picture of Uttar Pradesh

This integrated plan of Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority is proof that Uttar Pradesh is no longer just an agricultural state, but is fully prepared to lead the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0). From semiconductor chips to surgical robots and from global education to world-class films, Yamuna City is becoming a window to future India that is attracting investors from all over the world. The city will not only become the powerhouse of India’s economic growth in the coming decade, but will also set a global benchmark for smart urbanization and sustainable development.
