South Africa's transport department said on Friday that a serious bus accident occurred near Mmatakala in the northern province of Limpopo. 45 people died and one person was seriously injured in this accident. Giving information about the incident, the Transport Department said that the bus driver lost control, after which the bus collided with the barrier installed on the bridge. In this incident, the bus went out of control and overturned from the bridge and caught fire.

On receiving information about the incident, local people and police and fire brigade personnel launched a rescue operation and took the injured to the hospital for treatment. A statement from a government spokesman said the passenger bus was carrying people from the South African country of Botswana to the town of Moria in Limpopo. Limpopo's transport department said in a separate statement that rescue operations were ongoing as some bodies were burnt beyond recognition, with others trapped under debris and scattered at the scene.
