Guwahati, March 03 (HS). Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria participated in the Khelo India REC Eastern Open Talent Hunt Boxing Program (Elite, Youth, Junior and Sub Junior) held at the Patriotic Tarun Ram Phukan Indoor Stadium, Guwahati this evening.
In his congratulatory message to all the participants of the programme, the Governor said that India is a storehouse of sporting talent and through scientific training, talents can be transformed into real sporting assets of the nation. He stressed the importance of such events, which have the potential to unearth talents and provide them with the necessary support to prepare for major sporting events, both national and international.
The Governor highlighted the transformative role of sports in shaping the character and morale of an individual. He underlined how sportsmanship as well as values like honesty and integrity can be developed through sports. Reflecting India's evolving performance on the international stage, the Governor acknowledged the commendable growth in the country's medal tally in international events. He said that this improvement is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the athletes. He credited platforms like Khelo India for catalyzing India's journey towards sporting excellence.
Advocate General of Assam Debojit Saikia, General Secretary of Boxing Association of India Hemant Kumar Kalita, President of Assam Boxing Association Kamal Gyari along with many other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
