EPFO: The Central Government has issued an order for the Employees Provident Fund Organization through the Ministry of Labor. The Central Government has asked to make Aadhaar based OTP (One Time Password) mandatory for the activation of UAN (Universal Account Number) of employees. After activating UAN through this OTP, employees will be able to easily avail the extensive online services of EPFO.
Instructions issued for EPFO
The Labor Ministry is working to fulfill the promises announced in the Union Budget 2025 so that employers and applicants can benefit from ELI (Employee Linked Scheme). For this, the Ministry of Labor and Employment has asked EPFO to work in campaign mode so that they can activate the UAN of the employees.
Only employees benefit from OTP based UAN activation
With OTP based UAN activation, employees can manage their public fund accounts effectively. You can download PF passbook and claim online for withdrawals, advances and funds transfers as well as update personal details easily. You can also update the claim online in real time.
You can access EPFO services 24 hours from your home
Through this, employees get 24-hour access to EPFO services which they can update from the comfort of their home. This means that they do not need to come to the EPFO office in person. EPFO will implement it in zonal and regional offices to increase its reach. Later in the second phase of the process, UAN activation will also include biometric authentication which will be accomplished through face recognition.
How to complete the activation process using Aadhaar-based OTP
The activation process can be completed using Aadhaar-based OTP (One-Time Password). For this, employers should ensure that their employees activate UAN by following the steps mentioned here-
- Go to EPFO member portal.
- Click on Activate UAN under Important Links category.
- Enter UAN, Aadhaar number, name, date of birth and mobile number linked to Aadhaar.
- Employees must ensure that their mobile number is linked to Aadhaar to access the full range of EPFO digital services.
- Agree to Aadhaar OTP Verification
- Click on “Get Authorization PIN” to receive OTP on the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar.
- Enter OTP to complete activation
- Upon successful activation a password will be sent to your registered mobile number.
