
The government has made a big announcement for the agitators who played an important role in the struggle for creation of a separate state. The Pushkar Singh Dhami government of Uttarakhand has given formal approval to the Home Department’s proposal to significantly increase the monthly honor pension given to the dependents of state agitators and martyrs. Under this decision of the government, the monthly pension of the agitators who went to jail or were injured during the movement has been increased from ₹ 6,000 to ₹ 7,000 per month. Along with this, the honorarium of other categories of agitators and their dependents has also been increased.
According to the new structure approved by the Home Department, the pension to be given to different categories of agitators has been fixed as follows:

Jailed or injured agitators: The pension of identified agitators who went to jail for at least 7 days during the agitation or were injured in police action/movement has been increased from ₹6,000 to ₹7,000 per month.

Dependents of martyred protesters: The monthly pension of the eligible dependents of the immortal martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the state building movement has been increased from ₹3,000 to ₹5,500 per month.

Completely bedridden and disabled agitators: Making the biggest increase in the amount of assistance to seriously injured and bedridden and disabled agitators, it has been increased from ₹ 20,000 to ₹ 30,000 per month.

Identified agitators of general/other category: The pension of those identified as general state agitators other than the jail or seriously injured category has been increased from ₹4,500 to ₹5,500 per month.
Some mandatory conditions have been fixed to avail the benefit of Samman Pension:

Identified state agitators: The name of the applicant must be recorded in the list duly certified by the competent authority of the State Government or the Agitator Identification Commission/District Magistrate’s Office.

Jail or hospital records: For ₹7,000 pension category, there should be certified authorized medical/police record of minimum 7 days of judicial custody (jail) or injury sustained during agitation.

Government Service and Other Pension Status: The agitators concerned should not be working in any regular government service and should not be getting double pension of the agitator category from any other government source.
This benefit of pension increase will be sent directly to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). The amount at the revised rate will be automatically credited to the accounts of the agitators whose data is already verified in the treasury and district magistrate’s office of the concerned district. The agitators whose certificates or claims are yet to be verified can complete the verification process by submitting their documents to the Collectorate/DM office of the concerned district.
