New Delhi: The government and opposition leaders managed to resolve the week-long deadlock on Monday. After this, parliamentary proceedings will continue normally from Tuesday. Also, on the occasion of completion of 75 years of adoption of the Constitution, there will be discussion in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. The Constitution will be debated in the Lower House on 13 and 14 December and in the Upper House on 16 and 17 December.
The opposition demanded that both Houses of Parliament celebrate the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution by the Constituent Assembly. Rijiju told reporters that the proceedings of the House will proceed normally from Tuesday, both the Houses will discuss the listed matters. He expressed confidence that Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will function smoothly from Tuesday.
The deadlock between the government and the opposition was resolved after back channel talks. Congress’s Gaurav Gogoi, DMK’s TR Baalu and TMC’s Kalyan Banerjee participated in the meeting with the government. Rijiju and Arjun Emeghwal participated on behalf of the government.
On the issue of Sambhaal violence and unrest in Manipur being raised by the opposition, Rijiju said that Parliament Speaker Birla has made it clear that any issue can be raised under the rules.
Sources said that after the removal of Sheikh Hasina government, Samajwadi Party may be allowed to moderate violence and TMC may be allowed to raise the issue of Bangladeshi Hindus. Congress is continuously raising the issue of the case filed by US prosecutors against Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani. The opposition is continuously protesting against the Sambhal violence and unrest in Manipur and has suspended parliamentary proceedings since November 25.
However, the opposition TMC did not give the Adani issue as much priority as the Congress. Instead it sought discussion on issues including unemployment, price rise and alleged unfairness in allocating funds to opposition states by the Centre. TMC also did not participate in the joint strategy meeting of India Bloc for the parliamentary session.
Earlier, Congress had alleged that the government itself does not want Parliament to function smoothly and hence it is avoiding discussion on Adani case, Sambhal violence and unrest in Manipur.
