Public Holidays: The month of November 2024 is full of holidays due to many festivals and special occasions in the country. After big festivals like Diwali and Chhath, there will be public holidays in different states on many important dates in November, which will provide relief to employees from schools to banks.

Government holidays on 12, 13 and 15 November:

12 November: Igas Festival

place: Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand

Holiday: Schools, colleges, offices and banks will remain closed in Uttarakhand.

The Igas festival, also known as Budhi Diwali, is celebrated with great enthusiasm in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. It is celebrated on Ekadashi of Kartik month, eleven days after Diwali and is a festival celebrated to celebrate the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya. According to local beliefs, when Diwali was being celebrated in Ayodhya on the victory of Lord Ram, there was a delay in the news reaching the hilly areas of Uttarakhand, so the people here celebrated Diwali eleven days later. On the day of Igas, lamps are lit in homes and villages, the traditional dance 'Chholiya' is performed and special dishes like 'Singal' and 'Bada' are prepared.

13 November: south assembly elections

Nov 15: Guru Nanak Dev Jayanti

place: Punjab, Chandigarh and other states

Guru Nanak Dev Jayanti, also known as Gurupurab or Prakash Parv, is celebrated with great devotion and gaiety on the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first Guru and founder of Sikhism. This day falls on Kartik Purnima and is celebrated with great enthusiasm by the Sikh community as well as people of other religions in India. On this occasion, kirtans and bhajans are performed in Gurudwaras and unbroken recitation of Guru Granth Sahib is performed. Nagar Kirtan is organized early in the morning, in which the Sangat preaches the teachings of Guru Nanak Ji. Guru Nanak Dev Ji gave the message of unity, equality and love to the society and preached against caste, religion and discrimination in his speech.
