New Delhi: After the leak of the NEET-UG exam paper, many questions are being raised across the country. From students to educational institutions and the opposition, everyone is protesting on this issue across the country. At such a time, the central government has considered conducting the NEET-UG exam in online mode from next year.
Till now NEET exam in the country is conducted by pen and paper, in which MCQ type questions are asked. But in the coming days, computer based examination system like IIT, JEE Main or JEE Advanced is likely to be adopted for NEET-UG as well. About three high level meetings have been held in the coming week regarding NEET paper leak, in which various aspects will be discussed in detail. The central government has constituted a seven-member panel under the chairmanship of former ISRO chairman K. Radhakrishnan on June 22. The committee will recommend improvements in the examination process and data security protocols and will also review the structure and functioning of NTA.
In 2018, the then Education Minister Prakash Javadekar had said on the issue of NEET-UG that from 2019, NEET will be conducted online and twice a year. However, after the objection of the Ministry of Health, the Education Ministry had to withdraw this decision. Now sources say that the online exam is being seriously considered.
On the other hand, the National Board of Examinations is preparing to reschedule the upcoming NEET-PG exam. The new dates are likely to be announced on Monday or Tuesday. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced new dates for the exams postponed in the wake of the NEET controversy. The joint CSIR UGC-NET may now be held from July 25 to 27. Apart from this, the postponed UGC-NET exam will be held between August 21 and September 8.
