Government is committed to freeing the tribal community from sickle cell anemia: Deputy Chief Minister Shukla

Bhopal, 15 November (HS). Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla said that the government is committed to freeing the tribal community from sickle cell anemia. On Friday, on the occasion of birth anniversary of Dharti Aba Birsa Munda and Tribal Pride Day, Deputy Chief Minister Shukla inaugurated the state’s first government “Center of Excellence for Prenatal Diagnosis of Hemoglobinopathies” at Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, Rewa. He said that this important center will be dedicated to research, investigation and diagnostic medical testing of blood-borne hereditary disorders in the citizens of Vindhya region, especially the citizens of the tribal group.

Deputy Chief Minister Shukla said that the establishment of the center is an effort to take the health facilities in the state to a new dimension, so that accurate and dedicated medical services can be provided to the special groups affected by blood-borne disorders. There was a need for this center in view of the prevalence of these disorders among the citizens of Vindhya region, especially in the tribal communities. This center will conduct an in-depth study of blood-borne hereditary disorders and will provide medical services by timely identifying the disease. Senior doctors of Gandhi Memorial Hospital and other distinguished guests were present in the program.

Madhya Pradesh tops in implementation of Sickle Cell Anemia Eradication Mission

Excellent efforts have been made in the field of sickle cell anemia control in Madhya Pradesh. Madhya Pradesh is at the top position in the country by screening 80 lakh 67 thousand 135 people so far. In the first phase of Sickle Cell Anemia Eradication Mission, genetic counseling cards have been distributed to more than 46 lakh people, in which Madhya Pradesh is leading in the country. On the basis of the successful pilot project of sickle cell anemia control in Madhya Pradesh, “Sickle Cell Anemia Elimination Mission 2047” has been started in the entire country, which includes 17 states.
