New Delhi, August 03 (HS). In view of the unfortunate landslide incident and heavy rains in Wayanad, Kerala, the government has directed the public sector insurance companies to provide all possible help to the disaster victims so that insurance claims can be settled and paid quickly.
The Finance Ministry said in a statement released on 'X' post on Saturday that this instruction has been given to the Public Sector Insurance Companies (PSIC) Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), National Insurance, New India Assurance, Oriental Insurance and United India Insurance. The government has directed the PSIC to provide all possible assistance to the victims of the disaster, so that insurance claims can be processed and paid quickly.
The ministry said insurance companies have initiated efforts to reach out to their policyholders through various channels (local newspapers, social media, company websites, SMS, etc.) to provide contact details for assistance in Wayanad, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Malappuram and Thrissur districts of Kerala, where a large number of claims are being filed. The central government and the Ministry of Finance are committed to assist the victims of this disaster and ensure that they receive the necessary assistance without any delay and hassle.
According to the Finance Ministry, LIC has been asked to disburse the claim amount promptly in respect of policyholders under the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana. At the same time, the documentation required for processing of claims has also been relaxed extensively, so that prompt disbursal of claim amount can be ensured. Apart from this, the General Insurance Council will coordinate with the insurance companies to ensure that the processing and payment of claims is done promptly and a portal will be hosted for all insurance companies, in which the status of the claim will be reported daily.
