New Delhi, 31 August (HS). The Central Government has given the prestigious status of 'Navratna' company to the public sector NHPC Limited. Apart from this, the government has also given 'Navratna' status to other public sector undertakings SJVN and SECI.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Ministry of Power said that as per the order issued by the Department of Public Enterprises (Ministry of Finance) on August 30, 2024, NHPC has been declared a 'Navratna' company, giving it greater operational and financial autonomy.
NHPC CMD RK Chaudhary said in a statement that this is a truly historic moment for the NHPC family. This is a recognition of our remarkable financial and operational achievements. On behalf of the NHPC family, he expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Power for their unwavering faith and support.
Getting the Navratna status has brought many major benefits to NHPC. It will accelerate decision making, increase efficiency and empower employees. It will support major capital expenditure and investment plans. Apart from this, it will accelerate growth, expand market reach and achieve long-term benefits. It is worth noting that at present, the total installed capacity of NHPC is 7144.20 MW. The company is currently engaged in the construction of projects of total 10442.70 MW.
