Innocents becoming victims of violence: RSS criticizes central and state governments

The violence that started in Manipur in May last year still continues. Incidents of violence have increased in the last 15 days, now Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has issued a statement condemning the violence in Manipur. A statement from the Manipur unit of the Sangh said that it is extremely unfortunate that even after 19 months of the violence that started on May 3 last year, no solution has been found yet. Apart from the RSS, BJP’s student organization ABVP also issued a statement saying that the central and state governments have failed to fulfill their duty of peace and security.

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) issued a statement expressing grief over the recent incidents of violence and killing of civilians by extremists in Manipur and asked the Central and State governments to take all appropriate steps to restore peace. A public statement issued by the Manipur unit of the Sangh said that violence has been going on in Manipur for 19 months, which is extremely sad and regrettable.

Innocent people are being made victims in the recent violence. The brutal killings of women and children are strongly condemned. Central and state governments really need to take serious steps. At the same time, Manipur unit of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) also issued a statement saying that both the central and state governments have failed to establish peace in Manipur. The killing of children, women and attacks on police and military forces in Ziriban is extremely sad. Had timely action been taken, lives of six innocent people could have been saved, the administration has failed in its duty. Eleven Kuki militants were killed in an encounter in Manipur’s Ziriban, following which Kuki militants attacked a camp of the Meitei community, abducted and killed six people, including children and women. After this incident, violent protests have started again in Manipur. In view of the situation, Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a meeting on Manipur issue for the second consecutive day.

Violating the curfew in Imphal, people closed the houses and offices of government officials with chains.

While the central government has ordered the deployment of 50 more CAPF companies, earlier 20 companies were deployed. Also, on the orders of the Centre, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the investigation of three cases of recent violence. This also includes the killing of six innocent civilians. Curfew has been imposed in Manipur’s capital Imphal and all schools and colleges here have been ordered to remain closed till the 19th. Internet service has been suspended in seven districts which has been extended for two days.

Protesting citizen dies in police firing, CM Birensingh calls meeting of all MLAs

Protests are increasing after the recent violence in Manipur. In Ziriban district, police fired on protesting civilians, killing one civilian and injuring another. In view of this incident, Chief Minister N Birensingh held a meeting with all non-Congress MLAs in Imphal, but the MLAs of the National People’s Party, which had withdrawn support to the government, decided not to attend the meeting. On the other hand, Manipur Akhandat Coordination Committee protested in Imphal by breaking curfew and locking government offices.
