Citing an alleged official order issued last week, the Congress party has claimed that the ban on participation of government employees in the activities of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh has been lifted. However, the alleged official order posted by Congress leaders on X could not be confirmed. BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya has shared a screenshot of the order. He said that an unconstitutional directive issued 58 years ago has been withdrawn by the Narendra Modi-led government. Several media reports have also made it clear that government employees can now participate in RSS events as the central government has lifted the nearly 6-year-old ban.

Order issued on 9th July?
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh shared an order dated July 9 by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions regarding the participation of government employees in RSS activities. The order said that the above instructions have been reviewed and it has been decided to delete the mention of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh from the relevant Office Memorandums dated November 30, 1966, July 25, 1970 and October 28, 1980.

In a post with a photo of the order, Ramesh said that after Gandhi's assassination in February 1948, Sardar Patel banned the RSS. Later, the ban was lifted on assurance of good conduct. Still, the RSS never hoisted the tricolour in Nagpur.

It was banned since 1966
He said in the post that in 1966, a ban was imposed on government employees participating in RSS activities and it was the right decision. This is the official order issued in 1966 to enforce the prohibition.

Ramesh said that the relationship between the self-proclaimed organic prime minister and the RSS has soured after June 4, 2024. On July 9, 2024, the 58-year ban was lifted, which was in place even during Atal Bihari Vajpayee's tenure as prime minister. Ramesh said that I think the bureaucracy can be tight-lipped now.

The Congress leader said this while pointing to the RSS's khaki knicker outfit, which was replaced by grey pants in 2016. Tagging the July 9 order, BJP leader Amit Malviya said that the unconstitutional order issued 58 years ago in 1966 has been withdrawn by the Modi government. In this order, government employees were banned from participating in RSS programs. The BJP leader said that the original order should not have been passed in the first place.
